  1. Surf Express 1.1.1 Mac Updater Read Me
  2. This document details the changes between versions 1.1 and 1.1.1 of Surf Express. It is divided into the following sections:

  11. **Warning**
  12. Updating to version 1.1.1 of Surf Express™ will delete the current Surf Express™ cache file, which may result in a temporary reduction in web surfing acceleration.  Once the cache file rebuilds itself, you will continue to see the benefits of Surf Express' advanced caching techniques.

To update Surf Express™ to version 1.1.1, double click on the Surf Express™ 1.1.1 Updater and follow the instructions.  For each item, you will be presented with a list of all the copies currently installed on your system.  Most users will only have one copy of Surf Express™ installed, but you may have more than one copy of the Surf Express™ Extension if you have more than boot drive, for example.  Select the copy of the item you wish to update and click the Update button.  Once the update process has completed, be sure to restart your computer to ensure that the changes have taken effect.

  17. Changes between versions 1.1 and 1.1.1
  18. • Internet Explorer 4.x performance with Surf Express is improved.
  19. • SmartFetch™ now functions under all circumstances.
  20. • Printing a document, under certain circumstances, no longer initiates a PPP connection.
  21. • Unexpected initiation of a PPP connection no longer occurs.
  22. • The Applications menu no longer displays incorrectly while Surf Express™ running.

  25. Known bugs with Surf Express™ 1.1.1
  26. • Surf Express™ 1.1.1 is currently not compatible wtih 68k based Macintoshes (machines with 68000, 68020, 68030, and 68040 processors). Any additional information about 68k support will be posted on the Connectix web site (www.connectix.com).

  28. • Surf Express™ 1.1.1 is incompatible with Spyglass Corporation's Surfwatch (http://www.surfwatch.com/). Connectix and Spyglass Software are investigating a fix.

  30. • Surf Express™ 1.1.1 does not automatically launch with version 4.0.3 of the Microsoft Internet Library, which is installed with the 128 bit encryption upgrade for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4. While Connectix and Microsoft investigate a fix, there are two possible workarounds:

  32. 1. Before launching your browser, launch the Surf Express™ Proxy (inside the Data folder of the Connectix Surf Express™ folder) by double-clicking it.

  36. 2. Replace the version of the Microsoft Internet Library with a different version.  Surf Express™ properly launches if version 4.0.2, which ships with Microsoft Internet Explorer, or version 4.0.4, which ships with Microsoft Office 98 is installed.  The Microsoft Internet Library is located in the MS Library Folder inside the Extensions folder.

  38. • The "Default Browser" that you are prompted to choose during installation of Surf Express is the browser that the Surf Express™ application will use to view web pages from the cache using the FindCache feature. During installation, every supported browser that is on your machine will be configured to use Surf Express™.
